Speaker Bio
Stephanie Trethewey is a seasoned broadcast journalist who has reported and produced for some of the country’s biggest news and current affairs programs. In 2019, soon after having her first child, Trethewey swapped the city for the country and launched head-first into farm life after co-founding the Tasmanian Agricultural Company with her husband. The transition was a baptism of fire, and the isolation she felt was crippling. Trethewey’s personal struggles inspired her to launch Motherland, a not-for-profit organisation that advocates for the emotional wellbeing of rural mothers. In late 2021 came Motherland Village, Australia’s first online rural mothers group. Motherland is developing a national hospital and corporate partnership strategy to help fill a gaping hole in Australia’s maternal health system. In 2022, Trethewey was named Australia's National Rural Woman of the Year.
