Speaker Bio
Aunty Eva Jo Edwards (short) is a proud Boonwurrung, Mutti Mutti/Yorta Yorta woman who - as a member of the Stolen Generation - has spent much of her adult life rediscovering and re-engaging with the culture she lost as a child. Taken from her family at five, she spent the rest of her childhood in State care. As an adult, she has reconnected with her community and become a fierce advocate, educator and performer. In 1999, Aunty Eva Jo co-created workshops that explored the many issues impacting the Stolen Generations. These groundbreaking sessions ran for more than 20 years in Victorian schools. In 2008, Aunty Eva Jo travelled to Canberra to hear Prime Minister Kevin Rudd give the national Apology to the Stolen Generations. She has been actively involved in reconciliation processes, working to impact the justice and health systems and connect Stolen Generations with their families and communities. Aunty Eva Jo’s life is one from which others can draw inspiration. Her fighting spirit and tenacity in the face of adversity is much admired within her own community and beyond.
