Krissy Barrett became the ninth Australian Federal Police Commissioner on 4 October 2025. Commissioner Barrett has 25 years in law enforcement and has undertaken a range of positions in the AFP including leading the National Security Portfolio as Deputy Commissioner National Security.
She was an Assistant Commissioner in Southern Command, and her experience also spans general policing and investigative roles including Deputy Chief Police Officer of ACT, and leading teams in the Serious Financial Crime Taskforce.
In 2023 Commissioner Barrett was recognised for her distinguished policing career with the Australian Police Medal. She also holds the Police Overseas Service Medal, Operations Medal (Operation Alliance – Bali bombings), ACT Emergency Medal and National Emergency Medal for leadership during bushfires, as well as the National Medal, National Police Service Medal, AFP Service Medal and ACT Community Service Medal.
